Serena Williams’ husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian recently expressed his disapproval of the redesigned National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) championship trophy and MVP ( MVP) awards.
Recently, the NWSL exposed a stunning picture of the new NWSL championship trophy and MVP award. The trophy was created in partnership with the well-known luxury brand Tiffany. This development coincides with the start of the playoffs on October 20.
The new trophy will make its debut on November 11 at the upcoming NWSL Championship at the magnificent Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. This is the first time the NWSL championship and MVP awards have been redesigned since the league’s inaugural season in 2013.
Angel City FC co-owner Alexis Ohanian recently took to social media to express that as a club owner, he will make it a priority to be a valuable resource to the entire league. He said he noticed the trophies were very mainstream and did not adequately represent the extraordinary talent of female players in the league.
The tech entrepreneur took the initiative to introduce the alliance to Tiffany & Co., which then initiated a revamp of the trophy’s design and quality.
“As owner of ACFC I have done my best to be a resource to the entire league and one of the things that shocked me at first was how lackluster our trophies were. I think these women are the best and their trophies deserve Reflect that.” And the league rightly agreed, so I facilitated the introduction of an amazing brand (@TiffanyAndCo) and the rest is history. Now we just need @WeAreAngelCity to host it in a month! 😆,” Ohanian posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Ohanian invested $100 million in Angel City FC, a start-up club that will become part of the NWSL in 2022.

“A big part of the reason I started Angel City FC was because Olympia was running around in 2019 wearing an Alex Morgan jersey,” he recalled.
Alexis Ohanian further revealed part of his conversation with Serena Williams during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, when Olympia came running happily wearing Alex Morgan’s jersey run.
“I said to my wife, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be great if Olympia could join the national team one day?'” Serena said without hesitation, “Unless she pays her dues.” I said , ‘Okay, challenge accepted,'” Alexis Ohanian added.
