This Saturday, the competition of the Basketball World Cup 2023 continues, with the teams falling in the quarter-finals between Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia and Italy competing for the 5th to 8th places.
Slovenia has already lost to Lithuania and Latvia beat Italy to set up a day before the tournament ends in the Philippine capital Manila on Sunday.
Slovenia vs. Italy
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s team has lost to Canada and Lithuania, so they must win to match their seventh-place finish at the 2014 World Cup.
Italy lost to the United States and Latvia, so they will try to end the tournament with a win and secure a spot in the Olympic qualifying rounds to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The first meeting will be held at 4:45 am Venezuela time.
Baltic states at war
Lithuania lost to Serbia in the quarter-finals, but they managed to fight back and beat Slovenia in their bid for fifth place. Latvia, for its part, managed to reach the sudden-death round without its best player, Kristaps Porzingis, losing to Germany at the last minute and defeating Italy in what was already a season-opening season. The World Cup was a surprise.
With this, the Latvian team will be looking to win and achieve the best position in its history in Europe’s classic World Cup tournament.
