This New Legal Drama Brings the Famous Trial to the World of Streaming

With a slew of spooky new releases for the Halloween season on Amazon Prime Video, legal drama is trending right now.

“Funeral” is based on the story of unconventional but charismatic lawyer Willie E. Gary and his work representing Jeremy Joseph O’Keefe in his 1995 lawsuit against a giant funeral company. Jamie Foxx plays Gary and Tommy Lee Jones plays O’Keefe. Jurnee Smollett and Alan Ruck also appear in supporting roles.

“Funeral” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9. 11 and joined Prime Video on October 13 after a limited theatrical run last week. Critical reviews so far have been mostly positive.

According to the streaming service’s public rating system, Tammy is currently the most popular movie on Netflix. The 2014 comedy stars Melissa McCarthy as the title character, a woman who goes on a road trip with her grandmother after losing her job and discovering her husband is cheating.

McCarthy wrote the script with her husband Ben Falcone, who also directed. “Tammy” received mostly poor reviews, although it features a stellar cast, including Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Sandra Oh and Toni Collette.

The creepy classic Beetlejuice is currently considered Max’s second most popular film.

Directed by Tim Burton, the 1988 hit stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. Earlier this year, production began on the highly anticipated sequel, which is scheduled to premiere in September 2024.

On October 12th, Hulu released a new documentary called The Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House. The film explores the disturbing work of Russ McKamey and his experiences at the McKamey estate.

Founded in San Diego and later moved to Tennessee, McKamey Manor is an attraction in which participants sign lengthy liability waivers that allow staff to subject them to severe psychological and physical torture.

Disney first released a movie based on the popular theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion in 2003. Now, 20 years later, the studio is giving the story another chance.

The new 2023 adaptation premiered in theaters over the summer, but was considered a box office flop. However, it’s finding a new audience this spooky season on Disney+. The Haunted Mansion stars LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.
