Today Roman Polanski, the famous French-Polish director, turns ninety. To celebrate this important anniversary, three of his films are available on the RaiPlay portal: Man in the shadow (2010) Venus in furs (2013) e What I don’t know about her (2017).
Man in the shadow (ghost writer) is a 2010 film directed by Roman Polanski based on the novel by Robert Harris “Ghost Writer”, filmed by the same author together with the director. Venus in furs (Venus in furrure style) is a 2013 film directed by Roman Polanski and starring Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathieu Amalric. The film, shortlisted for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, is inspired by the novel of the same name by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and, in particular, by the theatrical adaptation of the novel of the same name by David Ives, the film’s co-author. . Filmed continuously and with one camera, Venus in Furs allowed director Roman Polanski to find Pavel Edelman as the cinematographer (with whom he had already collaborated on massacre, Man in the shadow, Oliver Twist AND Pianist) and as composer of music by Alexandre Desplat (massacre AND Man in the shadow).
Plot
The playwright Thomas (Mathieu Amalric) intends to direct a play inspired by Sacher Masoch’s text, but after long auditions, he cannot find an actress who can be trusted to play the protagonist. Convinced that she is perfect for the role, Wanda (Emmanuelle Seigner), one of the ambitious protagonists who, with her vulgar and brainy nature, represents everything that Thomas hates, surprises herself and tries to show him that no one else fits like she. During the audition, Wanda will demonstrate that she knows the text of the work perfectly and the attraction that Thomas develops for her will soon develop into an obsession.
What I don’t know about her (Afternoon break in history) is a 2017 film directed by Roman Polanski and starring Eva Green and Emmanuelle Seigner. The film is based on the novel From Real Life by Delphine de Wigan. Screenplay by Olivier Assayas and Roman Polanski, cinematographer Pavel Edelman, director Jean Rabas, costume design by Karen Muller-Cerrault and music by Alexandre Desplat, stars of “What I Don’t Know About Her” Eva Green, Emmanuelle Seigner, Vincent Perez, José Dayan, Camille Chamu, Brigitte Rouen, Dominique Pinon, Noemie Lvovsky. The film premiered out of competition at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Plot
