When asked if he could bring back his time with The Last Son of Krypton, Tim Burton still appreciates the canceled performance and what he learned from it. “No, I don’t regret it. I will say this: When you work on a project for so long and it doesn’t happen, it affects you for the rest of your life,” he said. “Because you are passionate about things, and every thing is an unknown journey that has never been before. But it’s one of those experiences that never leaves you one bit.” These are big-budget obstacles along the way that understandably require directors to have thick skin, which Burton has clearly achieved. Even now, with his next big picture in the works, patience is the key to reaching the finish line.
Next year, “Beetlejuice 2” will be released, marking a reunion with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega, who won Burton’s “The Medium” for Netflix. The film had been playing in Hollywood since 1990 and was incredibly close to completion before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “I’m lucky we’ve come this far. It’s already 98, 99% ready. It was a great experience. He rekindled my love for making films.” We may not have Nicolas Cage’s Superman, but at least we’ll have Michael Keaton’s crazy and mischievous ghost to provide some more scares.
