Travis Scott returns to Texas for first tour since Astroworld tragedy

Houston rapper Travis Scott’s concert in Dallas on Tuesday marked his biggest comeback to Texas since the Astroworld festival in Houston, which left 10 people dead in 2021.

Scott is scheduled to perform shows as part of his Utopia – Circus Maximus tour on Tuesday and Wednesday at the American Airlines Center. He has one more stop in Texas and two shows in Austin on November 21-22.

Among those killed at the Houston concert at NRG Park was Danish Baig, a 27-year-old Dallas man whose family said he died trying to save his fiancée during the chaos. The Dallas boy, who was 9 years old at the time, was also seriously injured and later died.

The show also injured hundreds more concertgoers. The total crowd size was about 50,000 and the concert is considered one of the deadliest in U.S. history, officials said.

According to reports, Houston police noticed attendees “falling over” at 9:30 p.m. and immediately notified concert organizer Live Nation. Scott, who founded the festival in 2018, continued to perform, bringing rapper Drake on stage for about 40 minutes after discussions with firefighters and NRG Park officials.

In June, a Harris County grand jury declined to bring criminal charges against Scott or other event officials. The Houston Police Department released a 1,266-page report containing this decision. Civil lawsuits against Scott and festival organizers are still pending.

A Dallas police spokeswoman said Monday that it does not plan to change its personnel strategy for the concert but will respond if the situation calls for it.

David Ireland, American Airlines Center’s vice president of event programming and marketing, said in a statement that “our team has worked closely with the tour to ensure a safe and exciting environment for all participants.”

At the start of his current tour, Scott was reportedly scheduled to perform in Houston on October 19 at the Toyota Center. A recently deleted post on X made the announcement and was noticed by Reddit users, according to Reddit users. Houston Chronicle.

This was announced by a Live Nation representative. Chronicle that the previous lineup was inaccurate and it said, “There is no stop in Houston at this time.”

Scott’s 30-date tour kicked off on October 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He performed on October 13 to a sold-out crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina, but his second show on October 14 was postponed without any explanation.
