BarbieThe Blu-ray release has officially been released and audiences are eagerly waiting for Greta Gerwig’s hit blockbuster to start streaming on Max.
Margot Robbie’s take on the classic plastic world of the beloved Mattel toy became one of the biggest box office hits of the year when it hit theaters in July.
Barbie had a long run at the box office, earning over $1 billion worldwide and breaking all sorts of box office records in the process.
The title recently received a digital release as fans were finally able to enjoy the film at home, but it remains unclear when it will arrive on Warner Bros.’ streaming service.
Barbie is getting a Blu-ray release
According to a new message from Warner Brothers (WB) Greta Gerwig Barbie will be released on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and DVD on Tuesday, October 17th.
This comes 89 days after the hit film hit theaters on July 21. This is similar to other 2023 films from WB such as Flash (75 days) and Evil Dead: Rise (68 days).
Barbie It was previously reported that it will be released on the physical level much later, on January 2, 2024. However, a new ad refutes this.
The announcement came through the official Barbie X (formerly Twitter) along with a short promo for Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s Barbie World, as well as various clips from the candy pink adventure.
When will Barbie come to Max?
Now that Barbie has completed its theatrical run, which included a recent re-release with new footage, and it’s time to start thinking about its streaming future.
When the Greta Gerwig-directed film does air, it will end up at Max, the destination for all current Warner projects. But exactly when it will debut on streaming remains unclear.
CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav previously hinted that the film would be released. “autumn” but didn’t get more specific:
“We really believe in the cinema window. Let that movie hit the theater, play it, build that brand, and then put it on PVOD. Go through these economic windows that have always worked, and we think they work very well. And then we’ll transfer this to Max. And when it happens at Max, we think it will have a very good impact, and it will happen in the fall.”
Judging by Warner’s recent titles, fans should expect a streaming release at any time.
Most of the studio’s latest films arrived at Max either immediately before their physical release or shortly after (with Magic Mike’s Last Dance this is a rare exception).

However, BarbieThe streaming release may be delayed given the film’s overall success and Warner’s desire to potentially give the Blu-ray release time to breathe.
If that’s the case, then fans should expect the film’s streaming debut sometime in November or early December.
Barbie is available digitally now, with a physical release on Tuesday, October 17th.
