Looking at the MCU’s box office performance, it seems like Marvel has cracked the box office code. However, it was never easy, especially when it had to be kept a secret to cause tension among the fans. The creators of Spider-Man: No Way Home also kept Dafoe out of the spotlight for a while, at least while he was filming his scenes. Talking to Jimmy Fallon in his showDafoe explained how Marvel kept him out of the news.

“They did, they did. And they did it perfectly. And first of all, I thought, you know, these movies – the Marvel movies – have such a strong fan base. People are so curious about them. Even when they are created, people try to understand what is happening. But they actually decided that they would keep some elements secret. And I won’t say what some of these elements are for those who haven’t seen the film. But as for me… Yes, when I went to the set, they dressed me in a black raincoat and always put me in a car with dark windows. And they didn’t want me hanging out because they didn’t want anyone to see me in the movie.” Dafoe told Fallon.

Defoe was initially skeptical about this idea. “I didn’t think it would work” he added. But in reality that’s how it was, “And only just before the film’s release did they start hinting at something in the trailers” which he said was cool. Dafoe’s presence in the film was incredible, and the actor reportedly performed his own stunts in the film.
