Shades of Women of Science is the theatrical show with Sarah D’Amariodirected by Francois-Xavier Frantzwhich will be staged at the Municipal Theater of Casale Monferrato in Piazza Castello, to celebrate an appointment dedicated to women and their ingenuity.

The plot
The show will highlight the activity and personality of twenty female scientists who lived from the 4th century BC to today and will tell the story of the pioneers in mathematics, astronomy, physics and information technology through the centuries. Thus, for example, we will arrive in Hollywood, with the actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr; at Monte Palomar with the astronomer Vera Rubin; you will discover the secrets of the first alchemist-witches to get to the mysteries of the scholars of the fascinating universes of the infinitely small, from the atom to DNA.
Shades of Women of Science it will talk about women who have been able to establish themselves in worlds that too often have relegated them to supporting roles; in the past some of them have even had to change their names and disguise themselves as men to work and prove their worth. The show will therefore be a tribute to female figures who, also thanks to their fathers, mothers, husbands, lovers, colleagues and teachers have been able to demonstrate value and tenacity, regardless of their gender.

Shades of Women of Science is a production of the Ancóra Cultural Association and Constellation Factory with the support and patronage of the Municipality of Moncalieri, Department of Culture and Equal Opportunities.

The staging
Does intelligence have a gender? It is from this simple question that the show develops an amusing journey through time, to discover women who, against all temporal and intellectual prejudices, have made a contribution to humanity’s research and discoveries. On this track, the narration will develop with humor and energy in a cultured and ironic “One-Woman Show”, intended for a heterogeneous audience in terms of education and age.
The representation will develop, with essential scenic elements: rapid changes of costume, amusing and contemporary dialectic, curious contents, rich in information that will evoke intellectual partnerships and, why not, loves and betrayals. Portraits of the female scientists will be projected, sketched pencil drawings, to leave everyone free to identify themselves intimately as protagonists, following the female scientist “on stage”.
Integral part of Shades of Women of Science will be the original and enveloping luminous sets conceived by the director François-Xavier Frantz: a poetic triumph of light and intelligence, seen as a celebration of a dream, a hymn to passion capable of defeating the darkness of prejudice.

Criticism and goals
The main message of which Shades of Women of Science it promotes concerns the prejudice that often, even today, labels girls as not very gifted or not very interested in scientific subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry.
This is revealed by the studies of bibliographic sources, but also by the numerous conversations with students (from primary to secondary school) which have revealed how this false premise is still very rooted, sometimes even in the beliefs of the girls themselves.
With this objective, François-Xavier Frantz and Sara D’Amario wanted to highlight the need and the possibility of freeing oneself from a wrong and penalizing mentality, which is not biological in nature, but historical, social and cultural. And this is why the show aims to offer a moment of enrichment and sharing between generations, stimulating each of us to reflect on the figure of women in science without in any way arguing against men, but by becoming the ambassador of a wider message and positive. Because the difference between women and men should be experienced as a value, not as a reason for confrontation, fear and rivalry.
