Little remains relevant after half a century. Well, Barbie did just that, returning to the spotlight thanks to the movie of the same name. Success in the cinema, which is also declining on YouTube: in Italy, from the beginning of April to July 31, 2023, online interest in Barbie on YouTube increased by 89% compared to the previous period (December 22 – March 23). The phenomenon revived “Barbie-girl”, a single released by Aqua in 1997, jumping it straight to the 6th most watched music video in the world, and its Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice remake – Barbie World (with Aqua) at No. 18 of the same (data as of August 8, 2023).
Also, in real life, there’s a trend of Barbie finding a new sprint on YouTube in Italy: several creators have taken inspiration from director Greta Gerwig’s narrative approach to become protagonists or protagonists of their own, personal Barbie movies. Examples of this are Eleanor Olivieri’s video sequence (recently in episode 3), Ninna and Matty’s shorts, and the ironic Cartoni Morty, Barbie and Ken (warrior) crossover, Valentina Olivieri’s double interview.
Not to mention parody videos, most notably with Georgia Meloni Barbie and Matteo Salvini Ken.
And then beauty and fashion: from Grace’s glamorous make-up tutorial on your shooting range to Deborah Fully’s Barbie contouring, from outfits for movie premieres.
Not to mention those who are not afraid of pink pollution in the kitchen, even in Shorts format: and then try 2foodfitlovers Barbie-chard pasta or Griesel Tan Dulce cake.
