Dr Chris Brown shared a revelation about animal anatomy that left fans in shock.
The revelation follows on from a message the 45-year-old veterinarian shared last week about tick season.
In a video posted to Instagram, Brown said he has seen many pet owners mistaking cat and dog nipples for ticks and attempting to remove them.
He also told his followers that both cats and dogs have around 8-10 nipples.
“When tick season starts, which is now, every week I see a dog in the veterinary hospital where the owner has tried to remove the nipple,” he warned.
On Tuesday, he published the following post on his veterinary business page, detailing his warning to teat owners.
Captioning a photo of him holding a sad-looking dog, the veteran Bondi star wrote: “I may have shocked a lot of people when I accidentally mentioned the fact that both dogs and cats have nipples in my last post.”
The veterinarian wrote that the most common question he was asked in response to the video was why cats and dogs have so many nipples.
– I thought I would explain…Just be prepared for new shocks. And the best conversation at a dinner party,” he wrote.
Chris then explained why male dogs and cats also have nipples, cheekily referencing his own anatomy.
“Well, since I own two myself, the answer is actually quite interesting. And it is in the womb.”
He then detailed that while the pregnancy process in pets happens relatively quickly at 9 weeks, the nipples develop before the fetus becomes male or female at 6 weeks.
“So it’s all the time. And oddly enough, nipples are a priority. This is the case when nipples are more important than other “pieces”. Or NBOB. So here’s a fact (and an acronym) you never thought you’d know. Please!’
