Eli Roth’s long-awaited film Borderlands has a new release date, according to star Jamie Lee Curtis, who also revealed some details about his character. Released in 2009, the Borderlands video game took players on a wild adventure into a world of science fiction, where a group of “Grave Hunters” battle various enemies in search of a priceless treasure. Curtis’s description of Tanis’ character in the film is consistent with the original game character, an autistic individual who develops bizarre emotional attachments to inanimate objects, including his own portable voice recording equipment. Tanis’ eccentricities are further amplified in the game as she is also portrayed as a sociopath and at one point she is described as “a paranoid introvert with Asperger’s syndrome”.
Given Tanis’ many quirky characteristics and the opportunities he afforded her to create an amazing performance, it’s easy to see why Curtis was drawn to the character. Curtis’ description of Tanis is also good news for fans of the original game, as it confirms that the film will at least try to stay true to Borderlands’ various weird and extreme characters. Fans would naturally prefer a more specific release date, but the news that the film could be released in 2024 is at least partially encouraging.
Encouraging news about Borderlands has clearly been hard to come by in recent months, as news recently leaked that Deadpool director Tim Miller was brought in to replace Roth for some reshoots due to Roth’s prior commitments.
