From the Oscars to Cannes, time for rumors with Italy at the top – Ultima Ora

(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 09 – On the eve of the Oscars, where as many as 21 nominations concern films that had their world premiere on the Croisette, including Alice Rohrwacher’s short film Le Pupille, it is already time for rumors about the Cannes film festival selection 2023 (May 16-27) chaired by Palme d’Or Ruben Ostlund. And these are rumors that also point to Italy considering that three protégés of director Thierry Fremaux have films in post-production, which is why Screen Daily titles it ‘the year of Italy’ as well as Deadline. We are talking about Alice Rohrwacher with La Chimera, Nanni Moretti with Il sol dell’avvenire, Matteo Garrone with the very current Io Capitano on the journey of two migrants and then again Marco Bellocchio with La Conversione and Finally the Dawn by Saverio Costanzo, which follows an aspiring actress (Rebecca Antonaci) during a single night at Cinecittà and in the cast has Lily James and Willem Dafoe.

Killers of the Flower Moon the awaited new film by Martin Scorsese with the killer trio Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser is one of the safest considering that despite being an Apple TV release it will have a cinema release. Following in the formidable footsteps of Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford could arrive on the Croisette this year for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. More than hypotheses Asteroid City by Wes Anderson and Jeanne du Barry by the French Maiwenn with Johnny Depp returning as an actor (he is Louis XV) after all the litigation with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Also a regular at Cannes is Pedro Almodovar who has completed a queer western in the form of a short film starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, retired gunslingers.

Nor should we underline the more than probable arrival of Ken Loach, the master of English cinema, 86 years old, two Palme d’Or and 16 films all launched by Cannes: The Old Oak is (must!) sure. And it would be a terrific coup for Cannes to have the latest film from animation giant Hayao Miyazaki, 82, finished How Do You Live. Hypothesis Cannes for the return of Sofia Coppola with Priscilla and Napoleon by Ridley Scott with the emperor Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby empress Josephine. (HANDLE).
