The prestigious Alburni World Jazz Festival, one of the oldest and most important events in the Campania region, is preparing to celebrate its XXIX edition. This year, the long-awaited event will take place in the picturesque medieval village of Serre, located at the gates of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, at the foot of the Alburni Mountains. Dates you should mark in your diary: August 8, 9 and 10, three extraordinary days dedicated to music, art and gastronomic excellence.

The festival, which has taken a prominent place in the cultural tradition of the region, is a real reference point for lovers of jazz and good music in general. Its longevity testifies to an emotionally rich history and a constant desire to promote art and culture in the Cilento area.

With its charming atmosphere and suggestive architecture, the medieval village of Serres is the perfect meeting point for artists and the festival audience. Its privileged position, at the gates of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, adds value to the Alburni World Jazz Festival, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of an area rich in history and nature.

Entrance to all scheduled concerts is free, they will take place from 21:30 in Piazza Ennio D’Aniello.

Since last year, the festival has had the honor of hosting one of the most respected voices of the Italian jazz scene, the talented jazz singer Walter Ricci, as artistic director, with the support of the production company Mr. Few.

Through his experience and deep connection with music, Ricci has brought a breath of freshness and innovation to the Alburni World Jazz Festival, confirming that it is one of the leading events in the region.

To celebrate this new and exciting edition, the super guest jazz accordion virtuoso, in fact the great French musician of Italian origin, Richard Galliano, will return to enchant the Campania audience with his performance. A unique opportunity for jazz enthusiasts to relive a magical moment with their extraordinary ability to mix typical jazz sounds with traditional sounds through passion and craftsmanship that fuse into a single melody. Richard Galliano will perform solo on August 10.

However, another great cult group of world music will take care of the opening of the festival on August 8th, namely the historical NCCP – Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare, led by the historical singer Fausta Vetere.

Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare was founded in 1970 with the specific intention of spreading the authentic values ​​of the traditions of the people of Campania. The extraordinary success that the group achieved at the Spoleto Festival in 1972 and 1974 marks its international start: since then, the NCCP has repeatedly taken part in all the most important festivals in Europe and abroad. The group alternated their musical and theatrical activities, promoting and participating in numerous shows: La Cantata dei pastori, La canzone di Zeza, La Gatta Cenerentola, La Perla Reale, Sona sona… For this reason, Eduardo de Filippo invited them to visit. at his San Ferdinando theater in Naples. On the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary of music, Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare released the double CD “50 years in good company”, from which the new show takes its name, playing in different cities of Italy. 2019 kicks off with a new Anime di Terra tour, which sees the NCCP once again touring Italy, between festivals and concerts, interspersed with studio work on the release of a new CD. The next year begins with the presentation of the Napoli 1534 album. Tra moresche e villanelle, highly acclaimed by Italian and foreign critics, is the last work directed and commissioned by the late Corrado Sfogli, Artistic Director of the NCCP.

The second day (August 09) will be an evening entirely dedicated to the contamination and exchange of rhythms of jazz and songwriting. The star performer will be Artistic Director Walter Ricci, who, with his trio of musicians Dario Rosiglione on double bass and Amedeo Ariano on drums, will pay homage to American singer Nat King Cole, an American jazz icon who, through his interpretation, has left us with a repertoire of unforgettable songs. A live collaboration is expected with: the singer Karima, who boasts a large and varied creative experience, including the Sanremo Festival in 2009, and, above all, the collaboration with Bert Bacharach, on the basis of which it was created. She is the only Italian singer for whom “Maestro” wrote songs and with whom she recorded her first album called Karima in Los Angeles. Also that year, she was selected by Disney to interpret the soundtrack for the animated film The Princess and the Frog, she opened concerts for Whitney Houston and John Legend, participated in Tale and Which Show and The Best Years on Rai 1.

Artist Dean Bowman is one of the most gifted and respected vocalists in today’s African-American music scene, with a thirty-year career behind him entirely dedicated to artistic dedication (his contribution to all of Downtown’s jazz, rock and avant-garde). garde scene New Yorker) and “political” (he is a longtime member of the Black Rock Coalition). In his career, he has been involved in one of the most innovative and incendiary bands of recent years, Screaming Headless Torsos, and as a soloist he has performed in traditional black spiritual and gospel projects, as well as in various lineups, including TriFunkTory, Soul Trilogy. , The Black Spiritual Quintet & Ten Ballads (May 20, 2015). Rounding out the formation will be Alfonso Deidda, a jazz multi-instrumentalist from Salerno, from the large Deidda family, considered one of the best realities of the Italian jazz scene.

To complete the live sets, two great outdoor performers will take care of it: the versatile singer and songwriter Rossella Cosentino and Alessandro Santacaterina, a very young Calabrian instrumentalist and composer, recognized as one of the main European swing guitar virtuosos. After the concerts, three evenings will end with Aldolà Chivalà DJ sets.
