Pope Francis visited Gemelli Hospital on Tiber Island in central Rome on Wednesday to undergo “some diagnostic tests” after explaining on Wednesday that he still had a cold following reports that he had the flu.
After the general audience, Pope Francis went to the Gemelli Isola Tiberina Hospital to undergo some diagnostic tests. He then returned to the Vatican,” the Vatican confirmed.
Francis arrived at the center in his usual vehicle and returned to the Vatican less than an hour later.
During another bout with bronchitis, the pope went to receive a computed tomography (CT) scan at Tiber Island Hospital, a branch of the Gemelli Polyclinic where the pope works.
The pope had previously held an audience with thousands of people in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, but said he still had a cold and wanted a catechism read by a collaborator.
“I still have a bit of a cold, which is why I asked Monsignor (Filippo) Ciampanelli to read the catechism,” the pope said. He came in a wheelchair to the Paul VI Hall where the audience ceremony was held.
Nor did he read the address he received in public to the bishop of the Armenian Patriarchal Church of Cilicia.
Last Monday, the Vatican reported that “mild flu-like symptoms persisted, although there was no fever,” but planned hearings had been suspended as a precaution.
The pope did celebrate the traditional Angelus prayer on Sunday, leaning out of the window of the papal palace and reciting it in a good voice before thousands of worshipers gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
