Spain will be vaccinated against both COVID-19 and influenza at the end of the month

The Public Health Council, with representatives from all autonomous regions and the Ministry of Health, has determined that vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 will begin in the last week of September and in October. Furthermore, in the new document “Vaccination recommendations for Spanish influenza and covid-19 2023-2024”, the target group includes people from “health facilities”, such as those working in pharmacies.

They explained to the committee that there had been a slight increase in cases detected in recent weeks and that they were now stabilizing. “The incidence rate in primary schools is approximately 130 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In addition, 3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants require hospitalization.” .

On the other hand, the vaccine presentation recalled the recommendation approved in July for the use of monoclonal Nirsevimab against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in the 2023-2024 season. It is therefore urged to vaccinate babies as soon as possible, “if possible in October”, and to put measures in place to monitor the impact. Additionally, an independent panel of experts advising the U.S. Public Center recommends the latest vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech for everyone over six months of age.
