The Academy Awards are fast approaching and this week the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list of presenters for this year’s ceremony. Presenters include Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, Janelle Monae, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldana And Donnie Yen. It’s a who’s who of some of Hollywood’s most beloved figures, but also, with the rise of superhero franchises over the last decade and a half, a strong presence of superhero veterans. Marvel and of A.D.
Before the ceremony, i Marvel Studios secured the first Academy Award nomination for an actor, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Of Angela Bassettnominated for Best Supporting Actress. The actress was considered the favorite to win for most of the awards season, although the role of Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once it earned her a good number of trophies. Michael B. Jordanwhose Creed III is in theaters this week, he previously starred with Bassett in Black Panther.
“This morning is a bit special in the Bassett Vance house for the news of my Oscar nomination. What has drawn me to each of the women I have portrayed throughout my career is their strength, compassion, resilience and power,” Bassett wrote. “Queen Ramonda of Wakanda Forever is a character that touched my spirit because she is a mother and a leader who must care for her grieving nation as much as her grieving family.”
“Ramonda is a love letter that reflects and recognizes what we women do every day. There’s been a lot to discover as an actress, because it’s all about brilliant storytelling, coupled with a wealth of talent in front of and behind the camera. I’m grateful to the Academy for including me among such a wonderful group of actresses,” the actress continued. “I can’t wait for March 12 to cheer and celebrate together.”
Quickly scrolling through the list: Jennifer Connelly he interpreted Betty Bannerthe girlfriend of the Incredible Hulk; Glenn Close was Nova Prime in Guardians of the Galaxy; Samuel L. Jackson he has appeared in about half of the Marvel films in his role as Nick Fury; Dwayne Johnson was Black Adams in his solo film earlier this year; Jonathan Majors And Kang in Ant-Man & the Wasp: QuantummaniaAnd Zoe Saldana it’s a Guardian of the Galaxy.
The 95th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 12.
