Justin Timberlake’s post Britney Spears breakup was revealed by her former video director Chris Applebaum after she revealed he dumped her via text.
Chris, now 53, who has also worked with Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, detailed the moment of Justin’s split from the 41-year-old pop star.
He described how he was working on a music video with Britney when she received a two-word text message from Justin that said: “It’s over.”
Chris explained how Britney and her team worked on the Overprotected (Darkchild Remix) video during a grueling 24-hour day of filming.
In April 2022, Chris posted a photo of Britney on set, reflecting on the story behind the photo, namely Britney and Justin’s breakup.
He wrote: “This was taken on the second day of filming her Overprotected (Darkchild Remix) video,” he wrote. It was a (planned) 24 hour shooting day and we had one crew 12 hours later and another one showing up.
“At some point during the second shift, Brit disappeared and I went to her trailer to pick her up… only to discover that her boyfriend Justin had just broken up with her via text message. (Let me advise anyone reading this: don’t break up over text messages!)
“We sat on the floor of her trailer for a minute and talked it over and then got together.” He teased that it was “just one of the stories from the set…”.
Chris recently spoke with Page Six about the post, giving more details about the post and how Britney responded to it.
He told the publication that when he walked into her trailer, she showed her the phone and said, “I can’t believe this. Look at it. It happened.’
According to Chris, the message simply read: “It’s over.”
Chris revealed how he changed Britney’s mind about stopping work for the day, explaining: “If you don’t have it in you, I totally understand…
“But if you want to go out and finish that last tune-up in the rain, you might as well show him that he just made the biggest fucking mistake of his life.”
She apparently replied: “You know that? This is a good idea. I’m going to show him that he missed out on the best thing he ever had.”
Last week, Britney revealed she was devastated when Justin broke up with her via text message.
Britney talks candidly about her personal life in the pages of her new memoir, The Woman in Me, which will be released on October 24.
The New York Times reported that Britney wrote in her upcoming memoir about the end of her relationship with Justin, saying: “I was in a coma in Louisiana and he was happily running around Hollywood.”
It comes after Britney finally admitted to cheating on the NSYNC member with dancer Wade Robson after years of rumors.
Britney and Justin were rumored to have split in 2002 after three years of dating because she was having an affair with Australian choreographer Wade.
Justin later released his famous single Cry Me A River, the lyrics of which hint at the fact that he is being cheated on.
Britney said of the Good Morning America choreographer in 2000: “He’s just a prodigy, seriously… He’s a genius.” He’s great.’
However, their relationship was short-lived, and Britney and Wade broke up within a year.
Wade largely stayed out of the spotlight after that, but reappeared in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, in which he detailed the alleged abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of Michael Jackson.
