The World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA) has verified and self-declared Argentina free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (IAAP) through a report sent by the National Food Hygiene and Quality Service (Senasa) published on its official website, Following the recommendations of this international organization after the last outbreak in commercial birds.
In terms of international trade, OMSA confirmed and issued a report on the health status of Argentina’s epidemic-free status, aiming to restore our country’s export market.
In light of the culmination of health actions during the last poultry IAPP outbreak (commercial cycle), Senasa submitted to OMSA a detailed document containing all the health actions taken since the outbreak, which supports and maintains the current situation in Argentina as A country free from this disease.
After more than 28 days since the completion of inactivation tasks including final disposal, cleaning and disinfection of the affected farms, the closure of the last of the 18 commercial establishments registered in the region with HPAI outbreaks has been achieved. .
Likewise, according to epidemiological surveillance, no new outbreaks have been detected in poultry since June this year. In this sense, the document prepared by the Senasa National Animal Health Agency (DNSA) describes the measures taken, slaughter and disinfection operations and the epidemiological surveillance carried out since the first outbreak was confirmed in February 2023, which support the Free country according to section 10.4.6 of the OMSA Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
Likewise, work on the recognition of HPAI zoning with countries of destination for goods continues to be active and prioritized in order to achieve maximum stability in trade in our country’s products, taking into account the possibility of new outbreaks.
It is worth noting that the state of health emergency remains in effect through the implementation of epidemiological surveillance and prevention tasks throughout the country. It is important to remember that according to Senasa Resolution No. 153/2021, avian influenza is a notifiable disease in our country and anyone who notices death, neurological, digestive and/or respiratory symptoms in wild or poultry can notify the agency.
