The month of August ends with a grand return to the cinema of Johnny Depp, who this time plays the role of King Louis XV of France in the historical drama Jeanne du Barry – the King’s Favorite. A French-made film directed by actress and director Maiwenn, who also plays the title character: the film tells the story of Marie-Jeanne Becou, ​​Comtesse du Barry, the last mistress of the King of France after the more famous Madame de Pompadour. Madame DuBarry has been defined as “the most envied and hated woman of her time, the epitome of social superiority and success.” the type of controversial figure that Maiwenn has always drawn attention to throughout her career.. The film was presented on 16 May 2023 as the opening film of the 76th Cannes Film Festival; it was released the same day in cinemas in France, where it immediately achieved good success at the box office.

Adventures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Also in theaters this weekend is the new adventure of the four funniest turtles, the animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Mutant Chaos.. Maiwenn directs and stars in a drama based on the life of Jeanne du Barry, the last mistress of Louis XV at the court of Versailles, after Madame de Pompadour. Jeanne Vaubernier, a young daughter of the people, ambitious and thirsty for culture, lives in dissolute France at the beginning of the 18th century. He reads a lot and dreams of social ascent.
