The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a new variant of Covid-19 Eris, which has the scientific name EG.5. According to the top health entity, the variant is related to the omicron subvariant XBB.1.9.2 and cases are increasing in various countries such as: US, China, Japan, Canada and UK.
It is a more contagious and less deadly strain.of the statement WHO review: “While EG.5 exhibits increased prevalence, growth advantages, and immune evasion properties, no changes in disease severity have been reported to date.”.
World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged governments around the world not to let down their vigilance against the new variant. It is very important to maintain biosecurity measures in different public places. “We urge governments to maintain, not dismantle, the systems they developed for covid-19”.

As for the symptoms, they are like the common cold and similar to the previous variant, including: fever, headache, nasal congestion, joint pain, general malaise, and loss of smell and taste.
As a precaution, the World Health Organization has confirmed that current vaccines and boosters can combat symptoms of this strain.
