The world’s largest collegiate film festival in Savannah is in full swing and will feature one of the most anticipated films of the week. The 2023 SCAD Film Festival began last Saturday and runs through October 28th with May-December. The film premieres on Monday at 19:00. Directed by Todd Haynes, the film features actors and actresses such as Natalie Portman, Charles Melton and Julianne Moore. What makes this film festival different is that it gives SCAD students the opportunity to work on a professional film set and gain hands-on learning experience from veterans in their field. That’s how SCAD student Aidan Skye Jameson learned how it’s really done. “I think you can only learn a lot on set, by being in the classroom. sets,” Jameson said. “I’m very grateful to have this opportunity.” She said the experience allowed her to work in a small group of people where she felt she could really understand the process and ask questions. “I really enjoyed helping prepare for the fittings. because I saw how designers place clothes, in what order and why they create that space,” Jameson said. “The way they do it is to make the actors feel welcome. So seeing the underside of everything when preparing things (was helpful).” “May December” is already sold out, however this is a reserve queue for those who do not have a ticket in stock. “I think on set you can only learn a lot by practicing. You actually have to get out there and be on set,” Jameson said. “I’m very grateful to have this opportunity.”
She said the experience allowed her to work in a small group of people where she felt she could really understand the process and ask questions.
“I really enjoyed helping get ready for fittings because I got to see how the designers would arrange the clothes, what order they were in and why they were organizing the space,” Jameson said. “The way they do it is to make the actors feel welcome. So, seeing the underbelly of the whole preparation process (was helpful).”
